E.T. go home...

Oh have mercy on my patience, I have been waiting for my ride home from LUCT for at least two hours now. Oh my brother who is supposed to pick me up, where art thou? Or rather, where the hell are you?
Sitting in here in a freezing computer lab, almost reaching sub zero temperatures I swear, I couldn't be more bored of going online for free. Every website, every mail and every flash animation have been screened by my dry eyes, waiting anxiously to go home. Why don't I just go out of the computer lab to defrost you ask? Well, because it's the total opposite outside, it's a dehydrating sunny desert outside. I'm craving for some neutral weather right now.
Hmm but at least the Happy Tree Friends theme song is playing in my head now, which makes me laugh by myself, much to the suspicions of fellow students nearby who might be thinking I might be insane. Might? Hey, I am insane :) in a good way.
Oh joy, my brother just SMSed me, he's here... apparently sent his gf to the bank. Bugger.

Dan Estrin Rawks! Hoobastank rawks!!!

Secondary school. That was what the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Centre looked like as kids decked in colourful clothes and school bags turned up to watch Hoobastank live on their The Reason Tour 2004. Their American accents (fake and real alike) convinced me that most of them are probably from GIS or something. Anyway, if the crowd wasn't bad enough, the turnout was even more sad.

I was expecting to be struggling and reaching out for air against sweaty bodies but instead I was sitting down chatting with two cans of Coke and a poster. A nice breeze even blew through!

We (me and Alfred) weasled our way into the VIP "Media Section", apparently you have to be old enough to be in there or something, but there were lil school kids who were in there so you kinda wonder what was wrong with the judgement of the dude who let us all in. So yeah, after a couple of lame hosts who came out to give out free posters which all of us already had, opening band Vespertine gave a show with good effort. However the lead singer strikes an uncanny resemblance to Johnson, a friend of mine, if you know him you would agree with me totally. Anyway I didn't really headbang and stuff to them coz I was conserving moshing energy :)
So Disagree came onstage with a bunch of kids to sing the chorus of Crumbs. Who were those kids? We don't know coz they didn't tell. Alfred had his fun by shouting "Paedophile!!!" at the band and encouraging everyone around him to join. I was just yelling, "Tak Setuju!!!" ('disagree' in Malay).

So after Disagree's set, the tinkling of soundmen checking Hoobastank's equipment kept us waiting for about half an hour, with the annoying hosts coming out again. Then, the lights dimmed, Chris the drummer walked over to his drum kit, and the rest of the band came out to play Out Of Control. It was a perfect start. Being so close to the stage, and having the gift of being older and therefore taller, I knew it was going to be a great gig. Even the turnout increased by then.

Nice Guns N Roses shirt, Dan. You rock big time!!!

There were those clueless and even shocked to see the rocker crowd pogo-ing and circle moshing. I was all out. There is a point you reach when you're in the height of headbanging and rocking out like nobody's business. I reached a point where I was totally running on adrenaline alone. I couldn't feel happier. I couldn't feel more satisfied. I couldn't feel more whole. I couldn't feel more alive. All the pain and worries are gone and there is nothing more Zen-like and nothing more perfect at that point. Even though the music's loud and rocking, everything goes silent for just a moment, and you wouldn't want anything else from the world than this feeling. Hoobastank was great, and humble, and I in turn thank them for many of these awesome moments. Who cares what crowd you're in as long as you're yourself and enjoying it.
The show ended at around 10pm, and it's already a few hours after the show now, and I'm at home recuperating on H2O therapy. But I'm still happy.

A Tale of A Miracle

Woe was I when I was walking down the valley of broke-ville. Dreams of paying off debts and getting a ticket to Hoobastank's gig were denied by the sight of an empty wallet. Constant ring-a-dings on the telephone and online messages brimmed full of questions which shared the same theme,
"Are you going rock out at Hoobastank's on the 15th?"
'Tis was the same answer given to all,
"NOooOOOooo I'm too broke :'("
Then came this day, a very special one, a day full of surprises, good and bad. Babysitting a couple of rambunctious 5-7 year olds, I grimaced at the very sight of them and the thought of not going to a gig the next day. Almost being able to hear my heart shattering, almost unbearable was the thought, that I anounced to the world that I shall be going to the gig, no matter what.
"You better sing the loudest praise to God", a friend said online (language cleaned), when I told him that I will try to get the tickets, right after attending mass. One of the greatest of all miracles happened, even before going to church, when my weary hands stumbled upon RM100 in my closet. It was an old ang pow gift, buried under other old red packets. Staring at the note in shock and pleasant surprise, I dug up the rest of the money for the ticket and went on to Tower Records in 1Utama to purchase the much yearned-for piece of paper after singing praises, but only to find that the system was down at the Tower! Sigh
Trying not to panic, I called up my brother, who was galavanting around the mamaks of Subang Jaya, to purchase the ticket from Sunway Pyramid. He went and got me the ticket, and I lived happily ever after, THE END.
See you all at the gig tomorrow :)
